Local Area

The Old Town, as the name suggests, is the oldest part of Edinburgh, complete with medieval architecture, quaint alleyways (or closes as they are known in Scotland) and a real historical character all of its own.

The area can boast a wide range of excellent restaurants and bars and during the Edinburgh Festival part of the Royal Mile is closed to traffic so that street entertainers can perform.

Edinburgh Castle, steeped in ancient Scottish history, is a short walk up the Royal Mile, with The Palace of Holyrood (the Queen's residence when in Edinburgh) being equidistant at the bottom of the Mile.
